In the case of Initiative 940 in Washington State, 76 Words commissioned us to film a video showing the need to pass this important piece of legislation. Initiative 940 was designed to teach police officers de-escalation tactics in order to avoid unnecessary violence. The subject of this video is the sister of Charleena Lyles, who was shot and killed by a police officer in Washington State. She suffered from mental illness and lost her life due to an officer’s inability to properly address the conflict. Initiative 940 would provide the funding for police officers to learn nonviolent tactics for use in situations just like Charleena’s.

To produce this video, our team traveled to Washington State and spent time with Charleena Lyles’ family to understand the full scope of the story. C&I Studios approached the project with sensitivity, allowing the subject’s sister to share her experience in her own words while our crew captured footage that reflected the weight of the narrative. The production combined sit-down interviews with atmospheric b-roll from the community, creating a piece that was both emotionally grounded and informative. We believe that the most effective advocacy content gives a platform to real voices rather than relying on narration alone. Sean Shaw ran for the Attorney General of Florida on a platform of increasing access to medical insurance for Floridians suffering from pre-existing conditions. His stance opposed Ashley Moody, the former Attorney General, who lobbied on behalf of the medical insurance companies, which directly violated the wellbeing of the average American. To put it into perspective, Attorney General Sean Shaw compared the difficulty of securing medical insurance while suffering from a pre-existing condition, like cancer, to buying an assault rifle. This comparison shifted the vote in his favor… and ours.

This project gave our team the opportunity to address a healthcare issue that directly affects millions of Floridians. C&I Studios produced the campaign video with an emphasis on clarity, ensuring that the complex issue of pre-existing condition coverage was communicated in a way that viewers could immediately understand and relate to. Our crew filmed in Florida, capturing community settings and personal stories that added depth to the candidate’s platform. The editing process focused on pacing, allowing Sean Shaw’s words to carry the weight they deserved without rushing through the substance. His position pitted him against the American people in a rotten way. Congressional Candidate Jeff Van Drew would not stand idly by as Grossman stripped the American people of a basic human necessity. His decision to run against Grossman and bring his misdeeds to light guided his political career to success.
