Fentrice Driskell
When Historic Leadership Meets Democratic Vision
Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell, representing District 67 in Hillsborough County and running for State Senate District 16, approached us during her tenure as the first Black woman to lead the Democrats in the Florida House. With a background as a Harvard-educated attorney and former Carlton Fields counsel, Driskell needed content that showcased her unique combination of legal expertise, legislative leadership, and unwavering commitment to defending democratic values against extremist policies.
We developed authentic video pieces that highlighted Driskell’s journey from Polk County roots to historic legislative leadership. Our democratic leadership storytelling approach emphasized her role as both a trailblazer and consensus builder, helping voters understand how her experience growing up in a working-class family with a public school teacher mother and warehouse dispatcher father shapes her fight for healthcare access, educational funding, and government accountability.

Showcasing Legislative Leadership
Our primary video centered on Driskell at the Florida State Capitol, filming during Democratic caucus meetings where her role as Minority Leader becomes evident. We captured her preparing for debates on Medicaid expansion and police reform, with afternoon light filtering through legislative chambers as she reviewed complex healthcare legislation. The setting reinforced her leadership credentials – this wasn’t political posturing, but genuine policy work in action. We kept our approach professional: natural lighting, respectful camera work, letting Driskell explain how her legal background at Carlton Fields and Georgetown Law training translates to effective opposition research and coalition-building strategies needed to challenge Republican supermajorities and protect vulnerable Floridians.
Demonstrating Community Advocacy
The second video required balancing Driskell’s impressive professional achievements with her deep personal commitment to Tampa Bay communities and social justice causes. We filmed at Muller Elementary School where she welcomed teachers back for the new school year, capturing the genuine relationships she’s built through years of educational advocacy. The challenge was showing how her work on historic cemetery preservation, police accountability, and redistricting reform reflects her broader vision for inclusive democracy without losing the authentic warmth that makes her effective across party lines. We focused on genuine moments: Driskell discussing with teachers how education funding affects classroom resources, her natural ability to explain complex redistricting issues in accessible terms, the personal determination evident when she discusses investigating government corruption and defending democratic institutions against authoritarian overreach.
