Delegate Nadarius Clark, Virginia’s youngest House Delegate and first African American to represent District 79, approached us during his groundbreaking political journey that began with defeating a longtime incumbent in 2021. At just 26 years old, Clark made history as the youngest Democrat ever elected to the Virginia General Assembly, bringing his background as a community organizer, radio host, and Biden campaign operations director to the state legislature.
We developed authentic video pieces that showcased Clark’s grassroots approach and commitment to progressive values. Our youth political storytelling approach emphasized his journey from HBCU student activist to legislative leader, helping voters connect his community organizing experience to his work on housing justice, reproductive rights, and climate action while demonstrating how young voices can create meaningful political change in traditionally older institutions.

Capturing Community Organizing Roots
Our primary video centered on Clark at a community event in Portsmouth, filming during voter outreach where his grassroots organizing skills become evident. We captured him engaging with constituents door-to-door in the Churchland community where his family rebuilt after their house fire, with late afternoon light creating authentic neighborhood settings as he discussed housing justice and economic opportunity. The setting reinforced his working class roots – this wasn’t political theater, but genuine community connection. We kept our approach accessible: natural lighting, handheld camera work, letting Clark explain how his experience as a 14-year-old working at 7-Eleven and organizing after KKK disruptions at Virginia Union University shaped his understanding of the policy changes needed to support working families and marginalized communities.
