Political Video Production

City of Los Angeles

Our political work across the city of Los Angeles. Press conferences, policy announcements and social video for Mayor Karen Bass, filmed from the Palisades to LAX.

City of Los Angeles

Political Video Production in Los Angeles

Political video production for a city runs on the news cycle. A press conference is called days ahead, the Mayor is at the podium for a few minutes, and the city needs the remarks, the full event and the social cuts out while the story is still live.

C&I Studios films and edits for the City of Los Angeles and the Office of Mayor Karen Bass. The work covers emergency preparedness, jobs, rebuilding after the Palisades fire, public safety and community events. Six of those projects are below.

Emergency Preparedness

El Niño 101

A bilingual explainer that puts the Mayor and the city meteorologist in front of the questions Angelenos are asking.

C&I Studios filmed the El Niño preparedness press conference at the LADWP Emergency Operations Center, then a conversation between Mayor Karen Bass and Dr. Cohen about what the season could bring.

We cut it to the script with b roll of crews staging barriers and sandbags. The Mayor’s team layered in the graphics, and every line carries English and Spanish subtitles.

The press conference was filmed on October 5 at the city’s Emergency Operations Center in Eagle Rock, the first shoot of our engagement with the city. The finished explainer runs just over four minutes and sits alongside the full event and the Mayor’s remarks so the press office can use whichever piece fits the moment.

Jobs and Infrastructure

The Convention Center

The Mayor and the building trades expanding the Los Angeles Convention Center, cut for social with full captions.

The press conference ran on the West Hall viewing deck with the message of nine million dollars in wages for Angelenos. The strongest moments came from the workers telling their own stories at the podium.

We delivered three horizontal cuts and three vertical versions, each with animated captions and motion graphics built in house.

The same day our crew stayed for a second shoot, a run of interviews with the Mayor at the Convention Center. Every edit for the city ships in three versions: captions with music, captions without music, and a fully clean cut the city can recaption or score for any channel.

Executive Directive 19

Rebuilding the Palisades

A rooftop press conference on clearing the way for homes to rebuild after the Palisades fire.

Mayor Bass announced updates to her directive on streamlining development with the LADWP board and Rick Caruso, with new construction framing the shot behind the podium.

We shot on RED with separate audio and delivered the full press conference, the Mayor’s remarks and a short cut of social selects for the city’s channels.

The full event ran just over thirty minutes. Our editors pulled the strongest lines into the selects, including the LADWP board president explaining that the department will absorb the full cost of new power line extensions for rebuilding homeowners, so families heard the news in a clip short enough to share.

Palisades Village Walk

The Mayor and Rick Caruso walking Palisades Village and meeting the people who keep it open.

A handheld crew stayed with the walk from storefront to storefront as the Mayor stopped to talk with shop owners, diners and neighbors.

Nothing was staged. The piece is cut from what happened on the street and delivered in 4K and 1080 for the web.

Palisades Village is the same neighborhood where the Mayor announced the Executive Directive 19 updates, which let the city pair the policy with the people it serves. The finished piece runs close to six minutes and is cut to feel like walking the street alongside them.

Public Safety

Modernizing the 911 System

The announcement of an executive directive to shorten 911 dispatch times across Los Angeles.

Mayor Bass stood with dispatchers and public safety leaders to lay out how the city will modernize the way emergency calls are answered and routed.

C&I Studios delivered the full press conference plus a cut of the Mayor’s remarks ready for the press office the same week.

The announcement was filmed on October 23 under a podium sign reading Modernizing L.A.’s 911 System. Our editors cut the Mayor’s remarks to just under six minutes and pulled shorter selects so reporters and the city’s own channels could carry the key numbers without sitting through the full briefing.

Community Event

The LAX Block Party

The Mayor at LAX celebrating local Los Angeles restaurants in the terminal with a live band on stage.

The event put LA food names like Kogi and Marathon Burger inside the airport, and the stage was set in front of the terminal glass with the band playing behind the podium.

We delivered the full press conference, a version scored with the live music, the Mayor’s remarks and four b roll packages.

Filmed on October 26, it was a different kind of deliverable from a policy briefing. The b roll went to the city as loose footage so the press office could cut its own social posts and recaps of the day.

Bring Us the Next Announcement

C&I Studios crews press conferences, policy rollouts and community events for public offices and campaigns in Los Angeles. Production and post sit under one roof here, so the team that films the podium is the team that cuts the remarks and delivers them.

Send the date and the location. We will tell you what it takes to cover it.
