The Loudest Voice
A Room Built to Be Heard
Film crew services Los Angeles for Aura Studios Media
Key grip, production sound, and grip and electric package
C&I Studios provided the film crew services Los Angeles productions call for on The Loudest Voice, a one day shoot for Aura Studios Media at Shirley Dawn Studio on Santa Monica Boulevard. We supplied the key grip and the production sound mixer, along with a 1 ton grip and electric package.
The room came with a lighting grid already hanging, which changes the shape of a day like this. Less rigging from nothing, more programming what was already up there and shaping it setup to setup. Call was eight in the morning and the last thing went back in the truck at seven.

Sound Went Up First
The Loudest Voice needed clean dialogue more than anything else, so the sound cart went up first. It lived against the back wall, and the boom was in the air before the camera had settled onto the pedestal.
A stage is not the easy room people assume it is. Hard surfaces everywhere, and a camera on a pedestal that has to move without pulling cable into frame. Our mixer worked out of a bag rig instead of parking at the cart, which means being ready for the next setup instead of chasing it.
The key grip and the 1 ton package covered what the stage did not come with. Stands, flags, cable, and whatever odd piece of hardware turns out to matter once the camera starts moving. Most of it never shows up in a frame, which is the point of having it there.
Our producer carried our side of the day and stayed with it from the breakfast call through wrap. On a one day build that continuity is most of the job. Nothing gets handed off halfway, and nobody has to relearn the room at four in the afternoon.
Relit for Every Setup
There was already a lighting grid in the ceiling, and that changes the job. Instead of rigging a room from nothing, the day was about programming what was hanging and reshaping it for each setup.
Our gaffer was the one pushing for that. It is the part of a build like this that nobody notices when it goes right.
