Concert Video Production for a Live Festival Set

C&I Studios handled concert video production for a Flo Rida show on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. We filmed the whole show. A drone stayed up in the air to show the size of the crowd, camera operators worked close to the stage and behind it, and one person kept moving the entire time to pick up whatever was happening away from the music. Every picture on this page came off our own cameras that day.

Shooting a Live Set From Several Positions

A live show only happens once, so we decide where each camera stands before anyone walks out. One stays near the front, so you see the performer straight on and close. One works from the side and from behind the stage, where you get a different look at the band and at everything the audience never sees. One keeps moving and picks up the crowd and the quiet moments between songs. Concert video production works or fails on that decision, because once the music starts the only thing you can still change is where you point the cameras you already brought.

Aerial Coverage of a Beach Venue

An open beach is hard to show from the ground. Standing in the middle of a crowd, you cannot tell whether two hundred people turned up or two thousand. The drone flew the length of the beach in long, steady moves that held the stage, the crowd and the water in one continuous shot rather than jumping between still views. Those shots tell you the size of the show right away, which is something a camera held at head height in a packed crowd simply cannot do. Flying a drone is a normal part of our event videography for exactly that reason.

Backstage and the Room Around the Show

The music is only part of the story. We filmed the gear coming in, the area behind the stage and the crowd building up along the front barrier, because the footage that makes a video feel like you were actually there is usually shot when nobody is performing. Used well it gives the finished video somewhere to breathe between songs, instead of running one performance clip straight into the next for the whole length.

Post Production on a Multiple Camera Day

Several cameras running at once, plus a drone overhead, add up to a lot of footage by the time the last song finishes. The editing work starts on location, where we copy and check every file before anyone packs up, so editing begins from footage we know is complete rather than a stack of memory cards nobody has looked at. From there the day gets built into finished videos that each do one job. One carries the music. One shows the beach full of people.
