Aqua Hair Extensions

At C&I Studios, we were tasked to shed the right light on the brand, Aqua Hair Extensions, and to capture the community it created in the fashion and beauty niche. For a brand like Aqua, which already has a steady following, we knew that the challenge would not be to break the market but to create a better understanding of how it is a lifestyle for those that use it. That reason was not lost on us when we began planning the project. The job could have been given to anyone but they came to us because they trusted our sound judgement. We came to a conclusion that we would create a series of videos that showed Aqua educators how to put their training into practice.

We shot over three days to get the job done and used two different cameras on different session days, our RED Scarlet and Monstro one day and the Raven and Dragon on the other. We developed the studio into an interview setting so that we could have renowned hair stylists who use the products tell us how they improved their business with it.

“There is one thing the photo must contain – the humanity of the moment.”

We needed to project the unique image and style the brand is known for, their idea of beauty, and how they appeal to consumers from various walks of life. It was also important to highlight all the unique hairstyles, textures & colors to justify just how much more than a trend Aqua Hair extensions are. So we also had a product shoot where we captured all the products in Aqua’s inventory.

Aqua Hair Extensions are known by the fashion-savvy for their 100% high-quality human hair extensions and accessories.

The Gear We Used

Method

Approach

Delivery

Our method was to capture various content related to the attendee’s reactions to everything. This allowed us to let viewers get a deeper perspective on Aqua Extensions classes which are engaging and fun.

The challenge was shooting in a very standard hotel conference room with little room to maneuver, so we needed to get shots that did not focus on the location as much but directly on the subject and what they were doing.

We also made sure to include the core that the company reaffirms to all it’s consumers.

The core mandates of the company are:

  • To continually provide high-quality items.
  • To deliver dependable and outstanding customer service.
  • Constantly researching and developing new and fascinating items.
  • To deliver advanced beauty instruction to professionals.

At the end of the sessions, we had created a masterpiece for Aqua, who trusted us from onset. Best of all, we had fun.

Metisha Model Profile

A look into the Fort Lauderdale Talent Pool

We have deep ties to the artists’ community. Especially here in South Florida. We host creative events, like our Crew Call talent event, and use our resources to shed light on rising talent, regardless of their industry. Our collaborations with artists, like Metisha, are mutually beneficial, which is why the media content comes out so beautiful.

Our business’ marketing strategy requires that we are constantly producing original media for our brand. Sharing our passion for art is how we connect with our audience, so shoots like this are always at the forefront of our agenda. They are our segue into new frontiers. And we are always on the hunt to capitalize on those newly presented opportunities.

But these model profiles are not solely about us, which is another reason we enjoy them so much. They are about the people we work with: the people behind the camera, as well as those in front of it. Understand that everyone in the creative business relies on media reels to show off their skills and get hired for new jobs. When we watch a model reel that is completely dominated by the brands they’re modeling, we’re somewhat disappointed. Not in the model. In the fact that their talents are being overshadowed by a product. This is one of the reasons we started doing these model profiles in the first place.

Models are always in ads and working hard for other brands. We wanted to do something that was purely about them; where nothing — no product, no logo, no agenda — is stealing their spotlight.

Behind the scenes on the set of the Metisha Model Profile

For this shoot, we used our RED Monstro 8k with the Vista Vision sensor because of the outstanding dynamic range and higher ISO. We outfitted the Monstro with a Leica Vista Vintage Lens to incorporate a tone that couldn’t be applied in post-production.

Leica has always been a beacon for incredible craftsmanship, so incorporating their gear into this shoot was a no brainer. The combination of high-tech, ultra-modern tech with Leica’s old-school equipment created a unique cinematic tone, which really made this production what it is.

We were fortunate to work with Metisha on this shoot. The original talent canceled last minute. Rather than scramble to reschedule, we were able to find Metisha, who showed up at 5 AM to deliver on an awesome performance.

Perhaps the highlight of this shoot (and most definitely one of the most nerve-wracking moments) was when Metisha scaled the edge of the building. There was nothing separating her from the ground eight stories below — no guard rail, no harness, nothing. Capturing that daring maneuver put this model profile on another level.

Freebird Real Estate Fort Lauderdale

Freebird is an exciting new real estate concept debuting in East Fort Lauderdale.

Freebird real estate agents focus on the unique lifestyle needs of their clientele to find them a home that best suits their way of living. Before beginning the home buying process, they take the time to get to know their clients personally. If you’re a yogi, an outdoorsman, a business person, a boater, a foodie (you get the point), they’ll learn about your interests and passions until they have a firm understanding of how you live. Then they’ll find you a perfect home in a neighborhood that exemplifies your lifestyle.

Freebird’s personalized program represents a massive paradigm for real estate in East Fort Lauderdale.

Freebird believes that how you live is the first step in deciding where you should live. They inject the home buying experience with a social-centric, no-pressure vibe, which provides their agents with the intel needed to locate your dream home in East Fort Lauderdale. This intimate process creates a positive and relaxed atmosphere in which their clients can experience life in East Fort Lauderdale before committing to a move.

Branding Freebird

The first step in branding Freebird was creating an image that would welcome home buyers, sellers, and those interested in the East Fort Lauderdale lifestyle.

Our image had to excite consumers by breathing life into real estate. Boring wouldn’t do. Ordinary wouldn’t do. Their real estate process contradicts the status quo, therefore, their branding had to be completely unique for the industry.

First, we created a color palette that was iconic to South Florida scenery yet unique to the Freebird brand. One important difference here is how it distinguishes the company from other real estate agencies. The client wanted to avoid mimicking the realtor aesthetic that has completely saturated the market. This decision inspired us to incorporate people into the branding collateral. Rather than showcase homes and realtors in suits, we chose to showcase real people living and enjoying the East Fort Lauderdale lifestyle.

Given that Freebird is redefining the real estate process for home buyers and sellers by making the entire experience more social and laidback in nature, we avoided using imagery or language that denoted hard sales. We want users to feel comfortable every time they interact with the Freebird brand. If we did not achieve this, then we risked devaluing the Freebird program, which would, ultimately, cast the brand in the same shade as generic real estate agencies.

The final product is a distinguished and easily identifiable brand image that we are confident will become an icon to real estate in East Fort Lauderdale. No other company embodies the same values, energy, or process as Freebird, which is why the branding is so effective.

Freebird Real Estate Facebook Website

Designing & Developing Freebird's Website

The crown jewel of Freebird’s branding and marketing is their website.

We designed and developed a digital home that exemplifies the Freebird program. The entire website is built around the user experience. It is designed to excite consumers, inform them of the benefits of Freebird’s unique program, show them the validity of their process and encourage them to reach out to schedule a tour with a Freebird agent.

The greatest challenge we faced in the creation of the website was the interactive map for the Areas East page. This custom design provides an overview of East Fort Lauderdale, showing major points of interest and the locations of the most iconic and livable neighborhoods in the city. Our interactive map allows users to embark on a digital tour of East Fort Lauderdale. Each icon leads to a unique page that provides lifestyle information and pictures of the neighborhood, the most recent real estate statistics, and a few Freebird favorites.

To exemplify the laidback, social-centric appeal of Freebird real estate in Fort Lauderdale, we created a custom lifestyle quiz. This casual intake form preps users for the program and provides Freebird agents with a few talking points to get to know their clients on a personal level. A major function of the site is to ease consumers into this new real estate process while gently feeding them information on the Freebird brand and what awaits their new life in East Fort Lauderdale.

CTS Engineering

In association with the Florida Department of Transportation, CTS Engineering hired us to create a short video in support of carpooling.

CTS Engineering Inc. “began serving the Southeast Florida market with the belief and understanding that the future of the transportation industry requires creative thinking and diverse solutions.” Even with the spirit of innovation propelling their business, they don’t overlook simple and proven transportation alternatives, such as carpooling.

This video comes in response to a growing South Florida population and exciting building boom in downtown Fort Lauderdale, which is adding vertical density to the region. Both of these factors impact traffic in South Florida. More people equals more cars. Ongoing development equates to temporary congestion and detours. The South Florida community needed a simple response to increased traffic congestion that could be implemented quickly and effectively. Rather than reinvent the wheel, CTS Engineering and the FDOT promoted carpooling.

The familiarity of carpooling and the frequency of its use were our chief selling points. We chose to film this production from multiple perspectives to appeal to a larger audience. Our video targeted parents, teenagers, and working adults. The purpose of this video was not to convince the community on the efficacy of carpooling. It was to encourage residents to think about making small strides in energy conservation and to promote thoughtful planning in the way we navigate our city every day.

Monster Music

Monster Music

Monster Music is one of the leading sound and music engineers in the industry. Their history dates back 38 years. The legacies of household names, like Beats by Dre, begins with Monster as the key design, manufacturing, and distribution partner.

The advanced quality of their engineering disrupted the music market in incredible ways. Before the introduction of the first Beats, very few people were willing to pay upwards of $300 for a pair of headphones. Today, that is the standard, and consumers are willing to make the investment.

The Sounds of Champions Video Series

Monster Music, in collaboration with Roc Nation, hired us to conceptualize and produce a video marketing series promoting their new line of headphones and speakers.

The Sound of Champions accomplishes two functions:

  1. it introduces a new line of state-of-the-art music products, showcasing various products without overwhelming consumers, and
  2. it reshapes the application and use of their products, situating their gear in the arena of health and fitness alongside relaxation and leisure.

To meet the standards of Monster Music, Roc Nation, and their consumer base, we chose to create athletic showcases featuring star athletes in boxing and basketball.

Monster Music Athletes

The athletes are, ultimately, the centerpiece of our series, however, subliminally attached to their character is the presence of Monster Music marketing. This soft-sell elevates the series, creating a Nike-Esque marketing scheme in which consumers identify with the character and the sensation of using their products more-so than the product itself.

Each narrative is a chapter in a larger story. They are effective when viewed individually but are significantly more powerful when viewed as a whole. The message is simple: inspiration comes in many forms but determination often looks the same. Determination is a struggle — it’s blood, sweat, and tears. It’s taking the difficult road and facing each challenge head-on. Regardless of the path you take to find success, you need to create your own soundtrack. That is Monster Music way.

The Story of Charlie Villanueva

What is Alopecia? is the first chapter of a video documentary series about former NBA star, Charlie Villanueva. The video documentary was produced for NBA SeasonX.

Charlie Villanueva is a longtime friend of the studio. We’ve worked with him on a number of projects in the past and most recently on our History Matters series where he shares the life and legacy of Michael Jordan. This video documentary not only covers the life and career success of Charlie Villanueva, but it also raises awareness on alopecia, a condition in which hair loss is experienced in specific areas or more commonly throughout the entire body.

Redefining Strength Through Alopecia

Alopecia, though physically painless, causes immense psychological stress. This is something that Charlie Villanueva dealt with his entire life. Though he overcame the obstacles imposed by alopecia by making a professional career in the NBA, he continues to live with the burden. In this first chapter, Charlie V shares his experiences and bonds with others dealing with alopecia. This uplifting and informative documentary series is the first of its kind. We expect that it will change perspectives on this uncommon and misrepresented ailment while shedding light on the life and psyche of Charlie Villanueva.

A Video Documentary Mini Series

Ed Davis from the Portland Trailblazers was inspired to create a two-part video documentary series about sports and its impact on the youth. Pulling from personal experience, Ed David shares an insightful and genuine narrative on how sports shape the lives of young adults. Using sports camp as the setting, Ed Davis blends the experiences of the youth with those of his past to create a story that unites the past with the present day.

This short documentary mini series uses Ed Davis as a pillar to attract viewers but diverts the story away from his character to focus on the youth and the role of sports in their life, which is a powerful message. His status as an NBA professional player gives his words authority and he uses that to share an uplifting story set in Richmond, Virginia.

Jedidiah Learning Steps Video Documentary

Jedidiah Learning Steps is a nonprofit school on the outskirts of Lusaka, Zambia that offers children and teens free schooling and educational services. Their vision for united and prosperous Zambia begins with the children. They trust in the power of knowledge and have pledged to instill likeminded respect for schooling in their students. Jedidiah Learning Steps was started by Sifelani Mwale in 2010. At first, her school had 25 students. It has since grown to well over 300 students! They are in the process of building a fully functioning school building to give the children more comfort and space to grow.

We filmed the following video documentary for Jedidiah Learning Steps through our 501c(3) nonprofit organization, C&I Reach. We wanted to shed light on their ongoing mission and inform viewers about life in Zambia. We filmed this video documentary during our first trip to Jedidiah Learning Steps so it plays much like an origin story. Being there, getting to know and experience life in Zambia firsthand, added a lot of authenticity and accuracy to our documentary.

We used this video documentary production to help Jedidiah Learning Steps market their brand. To succeed they need to attract the global spotlight. This video is a great start in achieving just that. If you’d like to help Jedidiah Learning Steps build their brand new school, please visit our website and donate.

Flutemaker Ministries Documentary

Flutemaker Ministries is a nonprofit organization based in Nicaragua. They were founded in 2013 with a mission to provide families and children of Nicaragua a life beyond necessity through humanitarian work that teaches craftsmanship, agriculture, and life skills. Their work has helped lift communities out of poverty. They have created the framework of a self-sustaining community in which the citizens work together to help each other and create remarkable opportunities for future generations.

Through our 501c(3) nonprofit organization C&I Reach, we filmed the following documentary for Flutemaker Ministries, which explains their origin story and how they are building a promising future through independence and hard work. The documentary film introduces the organization by providing background on one of the original founders, Pastor Carlos. From there, we take the viewer on an adventure through the Nicaraguan countryside, showing how one small organization with outstanding purpose has changed the lives of so many by giving them the tools to govern their lives.

We produced this documentary free of charge to empower Flutemaker Ministries to share their story with the world. Through marketing and awareness, we aim to point a spotlight on this small corner of the world so that even more people volunteer and donate to their ongoing mission.

The Bag Maker

Flutemaker Ministries holds that craftsmanship is the path to independence. By teaching practical trade skills, they empower the citizens in their community to shape their place in society. This is a major theme of Flutemaker Ministries’ work in Nicaragua. We wanted to pay tribute to this practical philosophy with a thematic short that plays off their documentary video.

This short video functions as a trailer of sorts. The moody, slow-motion style captures the viewer’s attention. The drama of the scene plays on their emotions. The vintage appeal keeps them attentive. All of these sensations make the viewer want to learn more about the organization. We found that this segue increased viewership and user engagement, which, ultimately, was integral to the success of the overall marketing campaign.

Masterful Storytellers

A public-facing brand such as ours must outline benchmarks beyond traditional business goals. In short, we have to engage audiences frequently and on a more intimate level. This requires that we budget more time and resources in the creation of original content.

The advent of social media has made this the case for nearly every brand that aims to engage the public and gain value from consumer participation. A major part of business success is, therefore, dependent on the consumer-brand relationship.

There is no such thing as passive consumers anymore. Obviously, there are, but they do not benefit your business beyond a single sale. The consumers that businesses need to attract to thrive are the ones who want to be involved in the shaping of their brand story. This puts content creation at the center of your business interests.

Telling Your Story Your Way

Consumers have more control than ever, especially over the way audiences interact with brands. This is a good thing… if you play your cards right by staying at the forefront of content creation. Brands should allow consumers to participate in the telling of their story, however, by no means should they allow them to narrate it for them.

We implement video reels to ensure that the telling of our story remains in our control. Through fast-paced, high-quality, and engaging media we are capable of providing a synopsis of our brand, our mission, our successes, and our many adventures in a matter of seconds. The more video reels we have the more control we have over our public-facing image.

HighTower Financial Advisors offers leading-edge financial advisory services out of Boca Raton. They have a strict obligation to prioritize their client’s best interests in order to enhance their wealth and a foundation for long-term financial gains. In this capacity, they are more akin to business consultants than wealth managers.

HighTower came to us for two branding videos. They wanted media that would vocalize and profile their company; something that would distinguish them from their competition and succinctly relay their expertise in the industry of financial management. The end goal for these videos was to showcase their expertise while generating business leads.

Hightower Advisors needed to translate two pivotal facts:

1) They are the industry experts in wealth management

2) They have a legal and personal obligation to deliver results. These video productions answer both those consumer concerns.

Blu Pledge World Campaign

When Blu wanted to take their pledge drive global they knew that our team would get the job done. We travel internationally for our clients all the time, so we were a good fit for the role. We weren’t just there to set up our gear and record for them. No, we were there to inspire storytelling. So, off we went to Africa, Hawaii, New York City, and beyond to bring Blu’s pledge drive to life.

Part of the challenge here was making sure dozens of pledge drive videos came together to tell one cohesive story. Yes, we wanted each episode to stand independently and transmit their own inspiration, but it was super important that they built off one another and became a series. This was vital to the success of the campaign.

The sheer scale of this production was only half the battle. Not only did we need to travel from state to state, country to country, and interview musicians, artists, models, athletes and entrepreneurs, but we needed to make it feel natural. Each location needed to breathe life into the production just as each subject’s story needed to inspire the viewer to take action and make a pledge of their own.

We had tons of fun creating this series. Below are a few of our favorite episodes so you can see the lengths we went to deliver Blu a series that would deliver on their business goals. The Blu Pledge World series received a ton of positive feedback from reporters and industry professionals.

In the end, we showed people around the world how to embark on life-changing journeys and how to embrace rich experiences no matter where they are in life.

393 NYC, now known as LUME Studios — a pop-up event space located on one of New York City’s most dynamic streets — recently hosted an event for advanced contemporary woman’s fashion brand PH5. PH5 was looking for a creative agency that could capture the energy of their latest fashion show, how they transform LUME’s space, and how their audience experiences their art. They asked for one video that would tie all of this together. What we created was the first piece of story-driven media that is going to elevate PH5 as one of the most adventurous and outgoing fashion brands in New York City.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts

The Broward Center

The Broward Center opened it’s doors during February 1991. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the center serving Fort Lauderdale as the main hub for performing arts in the city. In celebration, they commissioned the following video to help commemorate the positive impact the center has had with bringing culture to Fort Lauderdale and South Florida as a whole.

This series of videos we did for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts are as close to our hearts as they are to theirs. We put our hearts and souls into every moment of this project. We took every step, from the conception and fundraising, to the documentation of the finalized pavilion with them. We’re proud to have been part of this journey, in not only making The Broward Center for the Performing Arts more complete, but in helping to enrich the culture of our city.

The first video is the first we ever created for the Broward Center. We basically lived at the Broward Center for a few weeks collecting all of the footage for this video. It was an awesome experience getting able to see a different side of Fort Lauderdale – of people expressing themselves through art and culture. The idea, was to create this video for a fundraising gala they put on in order to do an expansion. They ended up raising millions of dollars with the help of this video, which was premiered at the gala.

The second video encompasses the Broward Center’s rededication. Our entire Florida staff, again, put in some serious hard work to make this happen. From loading the car with gear, to acting, and staying up late editing, this was definitely a team effort. We feel extraordinarily fortunate for having such a beautiful and complete community working along side both C&I and the folks at the Broward Center.

The third video of the series, was catered to shooting the grand opening of the Huizenga Pavilion. We took our camera and acquired footage of the catering, the layout, and the general feel of the space to properly display the new possibilities that the pavilion has to offer. The relationship we’ve built with our friends at The Broward Center continues to strengthen seeing as our values for the arts and creativity mirror theirs. We look forward to see the growth continue to flourish for the folks at the Broward Center and for Fort Lauderdale as a whole.

Love, Abbey

Abbey Loren is the vocalist and multi-instrumental mind behind the Fort Lauderdale born music project Love, Abbey.

The music Love, Abbey creates somewhere between ethereal indie rock complete with woodsy orchestral notes reminiscent of log cabins and the smell of pine with morning mountain dew.

Loren is mused by the search for a sense of authenticity in the music industry by way of the tools within her reach.

Abbey has recorded and produced her upcoming EP with us at The Barn @ C&I in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Below, is the official music video for her single Lost at Sea, which was recorded during her time recording with us.

NBA Season X: The Charlie Villanueva Documentary

We were thrilled to collaborate with Tivity Social on this project. The guys at Tivity needed to come up with a sneak peek video about a biopic they’ve been working on based on one of the most inspiring stories in NBA history.

The biopic is centered around the life of Charlie Villanueva; the current Power Forward for the Dallas Mavericks.

The picture looks back at his decade-long roller-coaster career, and explores the his experience in being the only player in the league diagnosed with Alopecia Areata Universalis, as well as the strides he’s made by way of his anti-bullying campaigns.

Pete Buttigieg For Indiana State Treasurer

This video was created for Pete Buttigieg’s political campaign for State Treasurer of Indiana. Pete believes in using money the right way and for the right reasons. He works hard to withhold honor and integrity for his state and his nation.

We helped Pete on his campaign because he stands for a higher purpose, like we do. Today, Pete is the thirty-second mayor of South Bend, Indiana.

Aymber

Sometimes the most beautiful things surge from the ugliest circumstances. Back in 2012 after losing her job, Aymber picked up a guitar in hopes of using the instrument as a channel for her thoughts and emotions.

Four years later, and she’s goin’ harder than ever before. Her witty lyrics married with her catchy melodies propel the sounds strumming off her guitar to burrow deep in your brain making the o’l machine start chugging again.

Easy is the title track off freshman EP.
